I Stopped Editing Myself
I Stopped Editing Myself — Heres What Happened to My Business

Remember who the F*CK you are, Gloria."

That’s what a birth chart reader told me during a sacred ceremony in Oaxaca, a year and a half ago.

At the time, I nodded politely, thinking I already knew.

I thought I knew myself, an extrovert, a PR expert, a daughter of immigrants, a night owl, a small business champion.

But I didn’t realize I was still living inside a prison of shoulds. Should post this way. Should keep it professional. Should tone it down so I don’t scare people away.

I was following the templates. Editing myself to be more acceptable. And I was terrified of what would happen if I truly said what I believed.

Then, one day, standing in my bathroom with toothpaste foam dripping down my chin, I read an email from someone who told me flat out:

“We’re not aligned in our values.”

And instead of shrinking, I smiled.

The old me would’ve spiraled—second-guessing everything, trying to reframe my voice to be more “neutral.”

But this version of me? I felt nothing but pride.

Because when your messaging is so clear that people can immediately tell whether they belong with you or not?

That’s not rejection. That’s resonance.

That’s the pinnacle of messaging. And it’s one of the most sacred shifts I’ve made in my business.

Here are the three biggest ones.

From Template to Truth

I used to follow all the expert advice. Had the CMO. The seven contractors. The launch plans. And for five straight months, our Instagram following stayed completely flat.

Nothing was landing. Because I wasn’t creating from a place of truth. I was creating from pressure. From performance.

Then, I let it all go.

I paused the launches. I stopped chasing revenue milestones. I gave myself permission to actually enjoy my wedding instead of stressing about “momentum.”

And in that stillness, something magical happened.

I found myself back on my computer, late at night, writing emails that flowed from my heart—not from a content calendar.

Not because someone told me I “should.” But because I had finally created the space to hear myself again.

From Approval-Seeking to Values-Driven Leadership

I’ve always been a chameleon.

I moved 13 times as a kid. I lived with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and family friends—always the guest, always the outsider, always adapting to survive.

So I learned to shape-shift. To read a room. To be what people needed me to be, even at the cost of my own voice.

That survival skill followed me into business.

I watered down my opinions. I stayed safe. I looked at what the “successful” coaches were doing and tried to follow suit.

But none of it felt like me.

Now, I talk openly about race. About grief. About rejecting hustle culture. About slow PR and sacred storytelling.

I don’t just “try to attract diversity.” I live it. I am it.

And yes, over 100 people unfollowed me when I spoke out about racism in the coaching industry.

People told me to “stay in my lane.”

But you know what? For every one person who left, ten more leaned all the way in.

Because values repel and attract. And that’s the point.

From Authority to Resonance

Here’s the truth about 2025:

Authority alone isn’t enough anymore.
People don’t just care about what you know.
They care about how you make them feel.

Do I feel safe with you?
Do you see me?
Do you speak a truth that makes me breathe a little easier?

This is the new currency of connection.

You can have all the accolades in the world, but if your presence doesn’t feel grounded in lived experience, in nuance, in humility and power... people won’t stay.

Resonance > performance.
Safety > strategy.

This Wasn’t a Marketing Pivot. It Was a Homecoming.

That birth chart reader in Oaxaca didn’t tell me to “go find myself.”

She called me to strip everything away.

The conditioning.
The hustle.
The generational trauma.
The obsession with being liked by everyone.

She called me to remember who the f*ck I am.

Messy. Bold. Tender. Sacred. Whole.

And when I finally stopped trying to be a “thought leader” and started writing from that raw, unfiltered place, everything changed.

People who had been silently following for years started reaching out.

Not because I was posting more, but because I was finally speaking from my truth.

And that truth? It lands. It liberates. It leads.
